Driving out of Canberra, it isn't long before housing and industrial buildings dwindle and the view becomes a wide vista of open fields and scrub stretching to the horizon.
Cootamundra, my destination, wasn't far ahead and I was really looking forward to a walk round a farm to see livestock, crops and some machinery. (sad, but true!)
The first things that caught my eye were these outdoor grain silos - full of wheat, I'm told that although the wheat price is great, there simply aren't enough boats to export the wheat. A result of the lower yields during previous years and consequent reduction in shipping capacity as a result.
Cootamundra was just down the road from this place and I pulled up at Hugh and Jenny's farm soon after this photo was taken.
There in the garden was "Hairy Mary", lying naked on the footpath, directly between me and the front door. What a sight! But what should I do, walk over her, around her, turn back or move her?!
She looked dangerous, so I chose to make my way cautiously around so as not to disturb "her".
It was only after I had mentioned the incident to my hosts that they explained that Hairy Mary was a grass that shed the whole seed canopy when mature and those canopies blow around the yard , building up on certain less-windy areas - the garden footpath in this instance!
