It was dark at 4.30am when I drove out of St Louis, but I couldn't sleep on account of being fa too excited about the prospect of driving a tractor at Tim Richter's farm that day.
By 8am it was fully light and the vista opened up to "big sky country" as I entered Iowa State.
Fields of dark rich soils in every direction, all cultivated, some already planted with what could only be corn (maize) or soybeans.
This really is one of the bread-baskets of the world with so much croppable land in one area and an infrastructure to match.
Here are some photos of the kit required to farm 6,500 acres with maize and soy. All have GPS, some with RTK technology to offer inch perfect accuracy.
Big Cat (865)
Little Cat (765) - Sue Richter, David Richter & Deb with Daisy the labrador
Kitten (665) - pulling an 18m Kinze maize planter!
Say Hi to "Corn, corn and more corn" Tim! Which feline did you drive?
